Biographical Notes

Yates, Thomas. General Manager of Mossfield Colliery Ltd., Longton, Staffs., since 1921, and Director 1928. Also Director of the Bignall Hill Colliery Co. Ltd., since 1928. Director (Vice-Chairman), Fenton Collieries Ltd., 1931. Born 1876 at Leigh, Lancashire. Educated at Tamworth Grammar School. He obtained his training with the late Samuel Spruce, F.G.S., Mining Engineer, Tamworth, and the late Arthur Hassam, F.G.S F.S.I. Mining Engineer, Newcastle, Staffs., of the firm of Messrs. Spruce & Hassam. He has been the Surveyor, Manager and General Manager of W. Y. Craig & Sons Ltd., Brynkinalt Collieries, Chirk, North Wales, during seventeen years, and was Agent and Manager of Fenton Collieries Ltd., Fenton, for seven years. Managing Director to the following companies: Mossfield Colliery Ltd., since 1928; The Bignall Hill Colliery Co. Ltd., since 1928; Fenton Collieries Ltd., since 1931 Stirrup & Pye Ltd., since 1935; and The Stafford Coal & Iron Co. Ltd., since 1935. Address: Hem Heath House, Trentham, Stoke-onTrent.
