Biographical NotesWandless, A. M., Director of Scientific Control and Coal Survey, National Coal Board. Born in 1903 and educated at Whitehaven and Clare College, Cambridge. From 1925-26 was employed at the Fuel Research Station, Greenwich. Later was engaged in the physical and chemical survey of national coal resources conducted by the Fuel Research Board, first in North Staffs., then in South Yorkshire and finally was Officer-in-Charge of the Coal Survey in West Yorkshire. In 1947 was appointed Deputy Director of Scientific Control and for the past 10 years has been responsible for the direction of the coal survey which was transferred to the National Coal Board when the industry was nationalized.
