Biographical NotesVivian, Captain H., Board Member, South-Western Divisional Board, National Coal Board since March, 1949. Captain Vivian's family has taken a leading part in the industrial history of South Wales, and has been largely responsible for developments in Swansea for almost 150 years. It was the Vivian family who founded the Swansea copper works in 1810, and who, during the following century, also manufactured lead, zinc, gold. silver, heavy chemicals, and engineering products, and at one time, owned and operated the largest metallurgical works in the world. Obtained degrees in mechanical engineering and metallurgy with first class honours. Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Institution of Mining and Metallurgy, the Institution of Metals, and the Institution of Locomotive Engineers. From 1944-1948, was a Director of the Great Western Railway Company, and Chairman of the Locomotive Committee of that Company. Also a Director of Associated Electrical Industries Ltd., Director and Chairman of Beyer, Peacock & Co., Ltd.
