(v); Knight of Grace of the Order of St John of Jerusalem; High Sheriff of Yorkshire, 1920-21. Second son of late Thomas Bayley, J.P., of Lenton Abbey and Langar Hall, Nottingham (who was for some years M.P. for the Chesterfield Division) and Annie Mary Bradley Bayley, daughter of Hcnry Farmer of Lenton, Notts. Sir Dennis married in 1903 Audrey Cecil, daughter of Sir John Turney, one son, four daughters. Educated Tetyhanger Lodge, St. Albans; Uppingham; private tutors; Royal Agricultural College, Ciren cester. Founder and organizer of the Dennis Bayley Fund for the transport of wounded which raised ú700,000 for the provision of motor ambulances, hospital boats and other equipment, principally contributed by the coal owners and coal miners of Great Britain. Mentioned in F.M. Sir John French's Despatches, December, 1915; a Governor British Ambulance Committee; Member of British Red Cross Society, and Order St. John's War Executive Committee, Collections Committee and Motor Ambulance Committee. Officer of the Legion of Honour, Croix de Guerre.

Joined the Royal Fifeshire Voluntary Artillery. Lieut.-Colonel, Honorary, Royal Army Medical Corps. Honorary Captain, General Service. Knight Commander Order of the British Empire. High Sheriff of Yorkshire, 19 19-1920. Deputy Lieutenant, East Riding of Yorkshire. Deputy Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire. Justice of the Peace of Nottinghamshire-Acting Senior Magistrate at the Shire Hall. For many years a Member of the Nottinghamshire County Council. Mining Appointments: Twenty-five years Chairman of the Erewash & Leen Valley Coal Owners' Association. Member of the Miners' Welfare Committee since its inception. Twice President and Vice-President of the Notts., Derby and Lincolnshire Coal Trade Benevolent Association. Member of the Institute of Mining Engineers, and of the Nottingham Society of Engineers. Served for twenty-five years on the Council of the Mining Association of Great Britain, and for the same number of years an active member of the Notts. & Derby Coal Association (Owners').
