Chief Inspector of Mines at Home Office. Secretary to departmental committee on Spontaneous Combustion. Specialised in investigation of colliery explosions. Member of Research Committee of National Benzole Association. Neutral chairman of Cumberland Iron Ore Conciliation Board. Appointed to chair of mining æat Armstrong College, Newcastle-on-Tyne, as from October 1st, 1923.
