Biographical NotesLandless, Richard. Born in 1874 and educated at the Burnley Grammar School, Mr. Richard Landless has spent the whole of his business career with the Executors of John Hargreaves Ltd., whose collieries are situated at Burnley. He acted as General Manager from 1908 to 1920, and succeeded the late Sir John O. S. Thursby, Bart., as Governing Director in 1921. Mr. Landless was President of the National Association of Colliery Managers (Lancashire Branch) in 1907, and President of Lancashire and Cheshire Coal Owners' Association in 1923-4 and again in 1924-5. He is a Member of the Executive Council of the Mining Association of Great Britain, and filled the office of President of the Manchester Geological and Mining Society and Vice-President of the Institution of Mining Engineers to 1925-6. In addition he is Chairman of the Burnley Employment Committee, etc., and a Justice of the Peace for the County of Lancashire and County Borough of Burnley. President , Burnley Chamber of Commerce.
