Biographical NotesDavies, Maynard J., Area General Manager. Swansea Area, S.W. Division, National Coal Board since 1951. Born in 1906, and educated at Bargoed Secondary School, later qualifying as a mining engineer. A fellow of the Geological Society, was a gold and bronze medallist in mining and was awarded a diploma in surveying. Was Under-Manager at Elliott Colliery, Tredegar, for two years, as manager of the same pit for eight years, as H.M. Inspector of Mines in South Yorkshire for four years, and as a Colliery agent in No. 4 Area for a year before being appointed Production Manager of No. 4 (Aberdare) Area in 1948.
