Biographical Notes

Davies, Sir John Cecil, Kt., C.B.E., J.P. Joint-Managing Director of Baldwins Ltd.; Director of Tom Phillip Rhondda Colliery Go. Ltd., Coytrahen Park Colliery Company Ltd., Cardiff Navigation Colliery Co. Ltd., Cribbwr Fawr Collieries Ltd., Taylor's Navigation Steam Coal Co. Ltd., and of numerous other concerns. Born at Swansea, and has been associated with Baldwins Ltd., and its predecessors since early boyhood – started as furnaceman and is now Managing Director. Recognised steel expert and during the War performed notable services, as one of the founders of the Swansea National Shell Factory, and in other directions, for which he received C.B.E., the French Legion of Honour, and later the honour of knighthood. Member of South Wales Coal OwnersÆ Association, Vice-Chairman of South Wales SiemensÆ Steel Association, Member of Executive Committee of Welsh Plate and Steel Manufacturers Association, and National Federation of Iron and Steel Manufacturers. Has also taken a prominent part in the public life of the neighbourhood.
