Biographical Notes

Davies, D. F. General Manager of New Cross Hands Collieries, Tirydail Colliery, Llandebie Colliery and Gellyceidrim Collieries. Director of Cleeves' Western Valleys Anthracite Collieries Ltd., and of Gellyceidrim Collieries Co. Ltd. Member of the South Wales and Monmouth Coal Owners' Association, and of the Mining Association of Great Britain, and the South Wales Institute of Engineers. Justice of the Peace for Carmarthenshire. Davies Edwin Harold. In charge of Supplies Section of Coal Mines Department, and gave evidence before the Coal Industry Commission on the transport of coal. Davies, Sir John Cecil, Kt., C.B.E., J.P. Joint-Managing Director of Baldwins Ltd.; Director of Tom Phillip Rhondda Colliery Co. Ltd., Coytrahen Park Colliery Company Ltd., Cardiff Navigation Colliery Co. Ltd., Cribbwr Fawr Collieries Ltd., Taylor's Navigation Steam Coal Co. Ltd., and of numerous other concerns. Born at Swansea, and has been associated with Baldwins Ltd., and its predecessors since early boyhood – started as furnaceman and is now Managing Director. Recognised steel expert and during the War performed notable services, as one of the founders of the Swansea National Shell Factory, and in other directions, for which he received C.B.E., the French Legion of Honour, and later the honour of knighthood. Member of South Wales Coal Owners' Association, Vice-Chairman of South Wales Siemens' Steel Association, Member of Executive Committee of Welsh Plate and Steel Manufacturers Association, and National Federation of Iron and Steel Manufacturers. Has also taken a prominent part in the public life of the neighbourhood.

Past Chairman of the South Wales and Monmouth Coal Owners' Association for 1930, and Member of the Mining Association of Great Britain, and Vice-President of the South Wales Institute of Engineers. Justice of the Peace for Carmnarthenshire. President this year of the South Wales Institute of Engineers. Member of the Mining Examination Board, Mines Department. Address: Gwernllwyn, Cross Hands, Llanelly.
