Biographical Notes

Charlton, W. J., M.Sc. Area General Manager, Central Northumberland Area. Northern (N. & C.) Division, National Coal Board. Born in 1907 and graduated at Leeds University. On nationalisation was appointed Area General Manager to No. 9 Area, Northern Division and has been responsible for several reconstruction projects. In 1950 was appointed Chief Mining Engineer to the Northern (N. & C.) Division and from January 1954 to June 1955, became Deputy Divisional Production Director.
