Biographical Notes

Allen, R. S. S. Legal Adviser, National Coal Board. 43 years of age, he was educated at Wellington College, and Queens' College, Cambridge. He worked with Messrs. E. F. Turner & Sons, London Solicitors, from 1927 to September 1939 (as a partner from 1936), and specialized in Commercial Law. He joined the Territorial Army in 1936 (Westminster Dragoons), and during the war served under the Director of Military Operations at the War Office and subsequently under the Combined Chiefs of Staff in Washington. Retired with the rank of Lieut.-Colonel and was awarded the U.S. Legion of Merit. He joined the legal staff of the Board in 1946 and became Legal Adviser in May, 1948.
