Biographical Notes

Adamson, William, Rt. Hon. Member of the Executive Committee of the Miners' Federation of Great Britain. An official of the Fife Miners' Association. Formerly leader of the Labour Party of the House of Commons.

Biographical Notes

Adamson, Rt. Hon. Wm. M.P. for West Fife and Secretary for Scotland from Jan.-Nov., 1924, and Secretary of State for Scotland from June, 1929 Assistant and General Secretary for 27 years of the Fife, Clackmannan and Kinross Miners' Union, and Chairman of the Parliamentary Labour Party from 1917-1921. LL.D. St. Andrew's, 1927 LL.D. Glasgow, 1929. Trustee of the National Library of Scotland since 1925. Born in 1863, son of a miner, and was himself a miner for 27 years. Strong advocate of nationalisation of mines. Address: The Cottage, Park Avenue, Dunfermline, Fife. (Telephone: Dunfermline 400).
