* This gravel bed is of very large stones, which appear to have been rolled over in a river. Among the gravel several nuts and the remains of wood were found.    0  0     278  8½
The gravel appears to have been formerly the bed of the river, and is much thicker on the West side of the shaft than on the other. In the side at the top of the pit some pistol balls, arrow heads, and two curiously formed horse-shoes were found.    0  0     278  8½
