On September 23rd the owner and manager of Bishop's Park Colliery, Durham, was prosecuted for many serious breaches of the Act. In all, twenty-one charges were laid, this number including several alternative charges. Mr. Pool, Senior Inspector of Mines, conducted the case without legal assistance and obtained convictions on fourteen charges. The fines varied from 10s. To £5. The total costs and fines amounted to £26 6s. 0d. The convictions were obtained under the following sections :— Coal Mines Act, 1911, Sections 20(1) ; 20(2) ; 29(2) ; 37(1) ; 40(3) ; 40(5) ; 40(7) ; 42(2) ; 44(2) ; 63 ; 65 ; 66(d) and General Regulation 106, and the Coal Mines Regulation Act, 1887 (12). |

On May 6th the owner of Rumby Hill Colliery, Durham, was prosecuted for breaches of Section 14, 65 and 75, and 80 of the Coal Mines Act, 1911, Clause 1(a) of the Explosives in Coal Mines Order, 1913, and Section 21(1) of the Coal Mines Regulation Act, 1887. The defendant was convicted upon all five charges and fined £5 in each case |
