Mack, -, whilst passing over a level crossing on the Pontop and Jarrow Railway, near to Kibblesworth Colliery, with his horse and cart, was knocked down by some waggons and so severely injured that he died shortly after his removal to the Newcastle Infirmary

Makepeace, John, aged 18, he was crushed to death by a large fall of stone; he was the third brother to be killed in similar circumstances, and there was now only one surviving brother

Mally, John, aged 63, Labourer, He turned round to speak to another workman, and missing his footing, he fell off the ledge on which he was working. Although he only fell a distance of five or six feet, the injuries terminated fatally on the 10th July [Enquiries made], (accident: 06 Jul 1898)

Metcalfe, John James, aged 23, Barer, while removing baring a piece of clay burst off the face, owing to the frosty weather, and so severely injured him that he died the same day

Middlemost, William, aged 46, On the evening of Saturday, 7 June, William Middlemost, 46, was killed after he "had accidentally fallen into an old coal pit shaft." The inquest was held in the Grey Horse Inn, Temple Town, South Shields

Mills, Ralph Hogg, aged 43, Labourer, Deceased was placing stone on a bench ready for a steam crusher to operate on when he knocked or scraped off some skin from one of the fingers of his left hand. He mentioned the matter to the foreman who was near him at the time. He finished his shift and worked the next two days. His fingers became painful and the pain extended up his arm. On October 15, his doctor found blood poisoning had set in and he was sent to Newcastle Infirmary on the day where he died on November 11., (accident: 17 Oct 1907)

Mitchell, Anthony, he was taking waggons from GrahamsleyÆs Colliery to the cinder ovens. The waggons were being let down an incline by a rope attached to a stationary engine. He was tightening the brake with a strap and had his weight on it; the strap broke and he fell down. His left arm was run over and badly crushed. He was taken home, where the surgeon amputated the arm, and he began to improve, but his condition worsened and he died on the evening of the 18th, (accident: 15 Jun 1853)

Mollyneaux, James, aged 24, Miner, explosion of blasting powder; the deceased was stemming a hole charged with blasting powder with small iron ore, when the charge exploded, causing injuries which resulted in his death

Moody, H., aged 27, Hewer, killed by a fall of stone

Moody, Joseph, aged 27, Locomotive Fireman, was riding towards the colliery on the fore end of a set of empty waggons, and was supposed to have been jerked off in passing over some points and run over by one of the waggons; he died shortly after the accident

Morgan, Daniel, aged 60, Labourer, Struck by a stone thrown down from top of quarry. Morgan had received proper warning, and had stepped back to what he thought was a safe distance [Inspection made & inquest attended]

Morton, Jacob, Wasteman, died suddenly from heart disease whilst engaged at his usual employment in the pit

Mourning, Stephen, aged 59, Miner, Mourning had just filled a bogie, when a mass of ore, about 10 tons weight, suddenly fell from the side and caught him. The working place was about 30 feet high. The sides and roof had been officially examined a few hours previously, and were considered strong and sound. [Inspection made & inquest attended]
