Lee, Joseph, aged 40, Quarryman, He was holding four steel plates while a chain was put round them and they fell over upon him. Died on the 17th, (accident: 11 Feb 1896)
10 Feb 1895 Mickleton Quarry
Lee, William, aged 20, Horse Driver, foot severely crushed, run over by a waggon while shunting, he died from lockjaw on the 10th inst., (accident: 31 Jan 1895)
21 Dec 1888 Arnold Pit (Metalliferous)
Letcher, John, aged 48, Miner, struck by plank which fell down rise; deceased sent this plank up the rise, and lashed the rope once round, instead of twice; when near the top of the rise the rope slipped off the plank, which fell on deceased, who was standing at the bottom of the rise; this accident was caused by deceased's own negligence as it is against the rules to stand at the bottom of a rise while anything is being sent up

Lewthwaite, J. T. H., aged 25, Labourer, A crane was being taken down with the object of erecting it in another quarry, when the upright — 27 feet by 10 inches square — suddenly fell over and struck deceased. [Inspection made & inquest attended]

Liddle, Joseph, aged 50, Engineman, died in the Newcastle Infirmary from injuries received at the Montagu Brickworks, Scotswood; this accident was also reported to H.M. Inspector of Factories, in compliance with the provision of the Factory Act., (accident: 26 Sep 1894)

12 Oct 1903 Moat (Sandstone)
Little, John, aged 54, Foreman Labourer, While engaged removing the overburden of the quarry, which consisted of stiff red clay 9 feet thick, with a few stones in it, deceased had undercut a length of 6 yards to a depth of from 6 to 9 inches, and was so engaged when suddenly a mass of clay — practically the whole height and width — fell away, and part of it caught him and broke his neck. The weather had been very wet.
