Keir, Stephen, Cartman, He was passing along the highway at Wallsend with his cart when he was run over at the level crossing of the private railway running from Killingworth Colliery to the staithes by a set of full waggons. For some reason the watchman had left his post, and the jury brought in a verdict to the effect — "That the accident occurred through the defective system of the signalling, watching and lighting at the said crossing, and with a view of protecting the public against similar accidents in future, the jury strongly recommend that the owners of the railway take immediate steps for improving the same."

Kenneley, John, aged 68, Salt Boiler, Whilst lifting salt from the pans he dropped his ladle, and in reaching to recover it, he fell into the hot brine. Died 27th March [Inspection made & inquest attended], (accident: 22 Mar 1898)

Killen, John Thomas, aged 10, killed by the Wellington Pit locomotive engine at Whitehaven docks [fatality reported during the year but not classified as a colliery accident]

Kirtley, John, Locomotive Fireman, died from typhoid fever; he had received a slight injury to his foot about a month before, but this was not considered to have anything to do with his death [fatality reported during the year but not classified as a colliery accident]
04 Dec 1891 Teams Railway
Knox, Robert, [Not employed], was riding on the waggons from Teams Colliery, when in attempting to jump off he stumbled and fell under the wheels
31 Oct 1836 Little Houghton
Knox, Thomas, aged 51, drowned
