Chicken, Matthew, Underground Horsekeeper, died after being confined to bed about a week; on taking to his bed he informed friends and a medical man, that about three weeks previously, viz., on 26th September, a pony which he was attending to crushed him against the wall of the stable ; this had not been mentioned to the colliery people, nor had it been named to his fellow horse-keeper, and he had continued to follow his employment; he had organic disease of the kidneys

Clark, Joseph, aged 22, Carter, Deceased who was in the employment of the occupier of the quarry was, assisted by one of the quarryman, placing a stone in a cart at the quarry when the little finger of his left hand was crushed. He continued working but at night visited a doctor who dressed the finger, and advised him to lay it up for a while. He, however, continued to work until the 21st October, and on the following day he complained of pains in his jaw and breast, and eventually lockjaw supervened from which he died, (accident: 05 Oct 1905)

Cleghorn, Joseph, aged 36, On 23 December, Joseph Cleghorn, 36, employed on Lambton waggon way, Bishopwearmouth, was accidentally run over by a train of coal waggons. One of his legs was severed, and after being taken home, he died a few days later. The inquest into his death took place on 29 December

Cooper, Benjamin, aged 44, Quarryman, Deceased was working on a ledge in the quarry with a rope looped round him. He came to the top to speak to the foreman; they talked together for several minutes. and the foreman turned away, when deceased, in returning to his place on the ledge, fell to the quarry bottom, a distance of 30 feet [Inspection made & inquest attended]

Copley, William Henry, aged 40, Quarryman, he was standing on a ledge barring out a piece of rock which came a way suddenly and knocked him over the quarry face

Corby, George, aged 72, Master Shifter, died from bronchitis and dropsy, consequent, it was said, on a strain received in the pit three month previously; no inquest was, however, held [fatality reported during the year but not classified as a colliery accident]

Crawford, Benjamin, aged 27, Labourer, His mate was pinching down a piece of clay, and deceased stood on a bogie, believing he was at a safe distance. However, a lump struck the bogie and jerked him off, when another piece of clay rolled down and crushed him [Inspection made & inquest attended]

Crawford, Margaret, aged 1.5, [Not employed], aged 18 months, was killed on the Harrington Colliery Railway by being run over by a train of waggons [fatality reported during the year but not classified as a colliery accident]

Crone, James, aged 56, Carpenter, was engaged in some work at the quay belonging to the Wearmouth Coal Company, Limited, when he fell into a boat below containing tools, &c., and fractured his skull

Cross, Richard, aged 31, Locomotive Driver, Deceased left his engine to lower a wagon down a slight incline, and his head was caught between the wagon and a wall. At the point where the accident occurred there was only 6½ inches clearance, and the jury recommended that if possible more space should be provided between the wall and the rails [Inspection made & inquest attended]

Cutt, Thomas, aged 49, Miner, fall of roof stone ; the deceased and his mate had been ordered by the manager to put in three head trees ; they had put two in and were engaged putting in the third when a fall came (without the slightest warning), knocking out the two head trees and burying deceased, who was got out in 10 minutes, but he was quite dead
