Adams, John, was riding on a waggon and either fell or was thrown off by the waggons getting off the road at the points, sustaining such injuries that he died a few hours afterwards; the deceased had no business on the waggon

Anderson, Thomas, aged 64, he received a severe fracture to his right leg from a mass of coal which he and his fellow workmen had 'holed and kirved,' his leg was amputated the same evening and he died a few hours later

Armstrong, George, aged 46, Waggon Driver, While in charge of a train of empty coal waggons approaching the bank head of the Lambton Railway at Bishopwearmouth, George Armstrong, a waggon driver aged 46, was thrown off 50 yards from the station. One of the waggons passed over his legs and chest; he was taken home and died the same evening, 28 November.

1899 South Shields, South Pier Works
Aspin, David, aged 31, Labourer, He was employed by the River Tyne Commissioners (who own a quarry at South Shields), at their South Pier Works, South Shields, was riding on one of a number of railway trucks, when he was jolted off and fell under the wheels of the last truck. As it was construction work I have not entered it in the ordinary list [fatality reported during the year but not classified as a colliery accident]

Atkinson, John Gerwan, aged 18, Shunter, crushed between trucks while signalling
12 Jul 1848 Shiney Row
Atkinson, Thomas, aged 13, Thomas Atkinson, the 13 year old son of Isaac the miller was in charge of two horses belonging to Shiney Row Colliery on 10 July, when he was found lying near the factory. The boy had been kicked by one of the horses and suffered a severe wound above his right temple. He died on the 12th., (accident: 10 Jul 1848)

Ayre, William, aged 62, On 14 Dec 1917 he suffered injuries to his head and arms when he was caught by a fall of stone. He was off work for a year, then started on the screens. About a month later he complained of noises in the head, and died on 20th Oct. Death was reported as being from natural causes., (accident: 14 Dec 1917)
