Description

Three Die in Pit Roof Fall

Three men were killed by a fall of stone near the coal face 450ft. below the surface at Greenside Colliery, near Blaydon-on-Tyne, Durham, yesterday. They were buried by a fall of roof 10ft. long and it was several hours before their bodies were recovered

The dead men were Joseph. Scholey, aged 51, of Dodsworth Villas, Greenside ; Henry Maguire, aged 47, of Landscale Houses, Greenside; and Raymond Leathard, aged 37, of Westburn, Crawcrook. All were married and had children.
