| Date: | 27th December 1934 |
| Colliery: | Murton |
| Cause: | Fall of Roof |
| Lives Lost: | 1 |
At Murton Colliery, Durham, a piece of coal fell from a back at the top of a seam 5 ft. 6 in. thick and struck a scalloper on the right leg and foot. He sustained a slight laceration extending from below the knee to the foot. He received first-aid treatment and medical attention, but died seven weeks later from bronchial pneumonia following general septicaemia. The wearing of a shin guard would probably have prevented the accident.
