Cause:  Run over by tub
Lives Lost:  1

Description

A landing lad, aged 15, was killed at Elemore Colliery, Durham. He was near the inbye end of an auxiliary main-and-tail rope haulage plane, 200 yards long and dipping outbye I in 36, when a set of 24 full tubs left for the main landing. His decapitated body was found between the rails at the inbye end of the set which was stopped near the main landing owing to the last 14 tubs being derailed. From the evidence it was presumed that whilst illegally riding he fell between the tubs.
