A driver, aged 14, was killed at Blaydon Burn "Bessie" Colliery, Durham. The lad was standing at the head of a pony attached to one full tub on a level roadway whilst two other lads were re-railing a full tub some little distance inbye. The pony moved off. The lad clung to the bridle in an attempt to stop it. He was found 40 yards outbye underneath the full tub.
