A datal lad was killed by a runaway tub at Fishburn Colliery, Durham. He was employed at the bottom of a face dilly, 42 yards long with a gradient of 1 in 12, operated by a small singletub face-jig. Owing to a misunderstanding, a hewer sent away a full tub before the lad had coupled the empty tub to the other encl of the jig rope, with the result that the full tub ran amain to the bottom of the dilly.

By your direction proceedings were instituted against the manager and under-manager alleging contraventions of Sections 44 and 47 of the Coal Mines Act, 1911. Convictions were recorded, particulars of which are given in Appendix I.
