CORONERS FINDING AT INQUEST ON WALLSEND MINER.
Finding that an accident at the Rising Sun colliery on the death of Edward Davies, aged 44, a miner of 78 Charlotte Street, Wallsend, Sir Alfred Appleby returned a verdict that Davies died from acute pneumonia and meningitus.
Davies was struck on the head by a fall of stone whilst working in the colliery, and as his condition did not improve he was removed to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle, where he died a fortnight after the accident. Medical evidence showed that the cause of death could not be associated in any way with the accident, although pneumonia of that type was known as the result of such an accident as that in question.
