Description

A trapper boy was killed at Mainsforth Colliery, Durham. He left his doors and went into a landing where a driver allowed him to couple the pony to two full tubs and to take them outbye. As he left the landing he was sitting on the limbers and the pony was travelling at a fair pace. Just as he crossed the points the driver heard the bolt come out of the limbers. In consequence, deceased fell in front of the tubs, the first of which went over him. He died four days later from his injuries. This was an accident which should never have occurred. Deceased left his own place of work and was doing something he had no right to do.
