| Lives Lost: | 1 |
A staple pit bottom lad was killed at Wallsend "G" Colliery, Northumberland. He was crossing the uncovered space at the bottom of the staple pit whilst the cages were running in the shaft, and was struck on the head by some falling object. His skull was fractured and he died from his injury the following day. The entrances to the staple pit were provided with adequate sliding fences and there was a travelling way round about the shaft bottom which is well illuminated by electric lights. If he had used this travelling way the accident would not have occurred.
