Inquest: 26 Jun 1920, at Marske Institute, evidence was given that after deceased and another man who was working near him had each fired a shot and returned to their places. The moment Galliford reached his part of the roof gave way and he was completely buried in shale, he died before he could be extricated. A miner`s deputy named Arthur Dewing stated he had examined the place twice before on the morning the fatality occurred, he found the place all right in his view and sufficiently timbered. Verdict accidental death.
