He was killed while using a Jeffrey coal cutting machine in the Five Quarter Seam. Thomas Conn, coal driller, said he found the machine standing still, and Allison lying on his back with his right foot just under the frame. He pulled him away and found he was dead. Arthur Dowlen, electrician, said he had examined the earth wire since the accident, and found that a solder joint in it was broken, probably by the movement of the electric cable. The fault was about 15 yards from the machine and had caused it to become 'live'.
