Deceased and his brother were working in a 6-foot seam, including a middle band of 2 feet 6 inches thick, worked longwall; the bottom coal and the middle band having been taken out in the left-hand side a shot was put into the overhanging top coal; this was fired, but it left a lot of the coal still standing; it was stated by deceased's brother at the inquest that the roof was joaled after the shot was fired; whilst deceased was getting the remainder of the coal down with the pick he liberated from the roof above him a large "cauldron pot" 6 feet in diameter and 1 foot 6 inches thick in the middle, tapering off to a feather-edge; the "pot" was perfectly smooth on its upper side, and its pressure had been quite unsuspected; it canted out a prop and a plank; the working place was well timbered and packed
