The second occurred at Newlandside Limestone Quarry belonging to Messrs. Bolckow, Vaughan & Co., Limited, and resulted in the death of a quarryman. The man was working on a ledge 8 ft. wide, trying to lever some loose stones out of the face. He was engaged doing this when a piece of limestone, about 6 ft. above where he was working, broke off the face, and, hitting him as he was stooping at his work, knocked him off the ledge on to the bench below, a distance of 18 ft. The place was said to have been examined by the foreman prior to the accident, and nothing was then seen from which an accident could be expected.
