Description

On May 9th an accident occurred at Copt Hill on the private railway belonging to Messrs. The Hetton Coal Company, Limited. Deceased's duty was to pull a hauling rope out of the waggon way, when it was detached from the waggons at the bank head. The rope was released a moment too soon, and it curled round and threw deceased down beneath the waggons. Both his legs were seriously injured, and he died from loss of blood and shock.

Wilkinson, George William, aged 21, Bankhead Attendant, a set of waggons, when knocked off on reaching bank head on private railway, overran the chain which caught him and threw him under the waggons, causing serious injury to both legs, he died soon after reaching Sunderland Infirmary, Buried: Hetton-le-Hole Cemetery
