On January 26th an accident occurred at Murton Colliery belonging to Messrs. The South Hetton Coal Company, Limited. Deceased was engaged with another man lowering waggons loaded with timber, when he got his foot fast between the rails at the heel of a switch. The waggons were moving slowly, and he tried to release his foot, but could not do so. The other man saw what had happened, and attempted to stop the waggons with drags, but could not before two waggons had passed over deceased's leg.
