| Colliery: | Grinkle (Ironstone) |
| Cause: | Accident on Surface |
| Lives Lost: | 1 |
No. 345 on the list occurred at Grinkle Mines on September 3rd, and it caused the death of a putter on the 12th. He had jumped off a tram, on which he had ridden from a village to the mine, before it stopped, when, as he was running in front, he caught his foot in the rail, fell, and was run over. He was not breaking any rule by riding on the tram, it was one of a train run for the convenience of the men who lived at some distance from the mine. It is a dangerous practice for men to jump off trains or trucks when they are in motion, and especially so in front of them, for if they make a false step or slip they are almost certain to be run over. By the exercise of a little patience and care the list of accidents of this class would be much reduced.
