| Date: | 2nd March 1903 |
| Colliery: | Loftus (Ironstone) |
| Cause: | (See description below) |
| Lives Lost: | 1 |
No. 103 on the list occurred at Loftus Mines, belonging to Messrs. Pease & Partners, Ltd., on March 2nd, and caused the death of a shifter. This was a pure accident, and I only mention it to show that in spite of every care being exercised accidents will take place. Deceased and another man were clearing away a fall that had occurred in an air-way about 2 miles from the drift, and while so engaged a fall occurred from the left side and hemmed the deceased man in, the other, not being able to do anything alone, went for help but before he got back a very large fall — over 100 tons in weight — took place and killed him. He was a skilled man and they had everything, in the way of timber and tools, they required for the work, and the place before the fall occurred showed no signs of being specially dangerous.
