No. 358 on the list occurred at East Howle Colliery, belonging to Messrs. The Carlton Iron Co., Ltd., on September 19th, and caused the death of a trapper.
The deceased boy's duty was to remain at a door to open and close it, when necessary ; but it appears he left his work and got on to the first of a set of tubs, which was being brought out from the workings by a driver, and while it was going down a gradient 1 in 36 he for some unexplained reason loosed the pony's limbers off the tub, and as the tubs were running down the siding he jumped off, slipped his foot, and fell back under the front tub wheel, which ran on to the top of and killed him.
If this boy had not broken the Special Rules by riding on the tubs, this accident would not have occurred. The driver, I am afraid, was not altogether free from blame ; he
