No. 54 on the list occurred at Holmside Colliery belonging to Messrs. Thomas Hedley and Brothers, on January 31st, causing the death of a stoneman. At the time the accident occurred, the deceased and another man were packing stone in the longwall workings in the Hutton Seam, when a large stone, which had an invisible slip on one side and a smooth parting next the roof, settled down on to the packwall, and by so doing it freed some more stone in the face. which fell upon the man and killed him. This was a pure accident, there being plenty of loose timber available, and the place had been frequently examined and showed no signs of danger. The remarks I made respecting the accident No. 10, are quite as applicable to this one.
