The accident occurred near the engine driving the screening belts. The engineman had to leave his engine for a few minutes, and, instead of stopping it, he asked the deceased, who was trimming a truck of coals close by, to come and stop the engine if he heard any signal. This he had done before. Deceased went, but, instead of sitting at the engine, he began playing with some strong string, which he attached to a revolving shaft. In some way the string got hold of his thumb and hand, and he was thrown several times round the shaft before the engine could be stopped. All the working machinery was fenced, this shaft being about 6 feet from the flooring, but since this accident the whole place has been completely closed in, and no one can get in, but the engineman who has a key to the door [Inspection made & inquest attended]
