Date:  15th June 1895
Colliery:  Seghill
Cause:  Shaft Accident
Lives Lost:  1

Description

On June 15, at Seghill Colliery, a man was engaged putting a bolt into a pulley wheel frame, at an inset in the shaft, when he was either struck by the descending cage or was seized with a fit, the result being that he fell into the pit. There was no evidence to show how the accident happened, but from the position in which he was working, and the nature of his injuries, the presumption is in favour of the latter theory.

Fatalities

Moffit, Michael, aged 42, Joiner, deceased was working in the shaft, and it is not known how he lost his footing; but the presumption is that he fainted, or had a fit, and fell into the shaft
