Man Killed At Walker Colliery
About half-past six o'clock last night, whilst a Stoneman named James Urwin was following his employment in the Beaumont seam at the Walker Colliery a heavy fall of stone came down on the top of him. Assistance was quickly given by his mates, and a messenger sent for Dr. Panton, but the man died before his arrival. The body was taken to the deceased's home, Hemel's Row, Walker. He leaves a widow and a family of six children. As is usual at collieries on such occasions all the men were brought to bank. On Friday last a fall of stone took place in the Bensham seam of the same colliery, and caused serious injuries to a man called John Dawson, living at Welbeck Road, Walker, and who is now in a critical state.
