Description

This fatality is listed in the annual Mines Inspectors Report as "G. Simpson", but as you can see from the remembrance card, this is the name of his adoptive father, we have corrected our listing to show his own name.

Fatalities

Hodgson, Victor, aged 14, Incline Lad, This boy was working at the foot of an incline plane, coupling tubs, he was sitting in a safe place when the "sets" started, but on bearing the tubs running back he tried to get into another place opposite, and was caught. A coupling link broke at the welding, causing the full tubs to run against the empty ones, and breaking the rope. The accident was evidently due to defective welding, but it is doubtful whether it could have been detected on examination.
