No. 3 in list. Some large pieces of machinery were being lowered down the shaft, and deceased was an onlooker, his duties being away from the shaft altogether. The material being lowered was hung underneath the cage, which was above where deceased was standing. On commencing to lower the bottom of cage crushed his head against a fixed cross-piece of timber.
