No. 3 on the metalliferous mines list occurred at Jeffries' Mine, near Blanchland, on the 13th September. While John White, a shaftman, aged 40 years, was engaged with others in repairing the Taylor shaft, a bunton gave way while standing on it as he fell to the bottom, a distance of 60 yards. There did not appear to be any blame attached to anyone ; deceased was the man in charge and ought to have seen that the bunton was safe before he commenced working on it.
