Description

No. 34 on the same list occurred at East Howle Colliery on the 11th June. While W. T. Hill, a trapper boy, 13 years of age, was returning to bank in the cage along with several others, when near to the surface he carelessly, or perhaps inadvertently, put his head out which came into contact with the main, or kep bunton, completely decapitating him ; as the cage left the pit bottom the onsetter cautioned the boys to sit still, but nevertheless it would appear from the evidence given at the inquest that some larking had been going on.
