Description

Died on Saturday 15th October from injuries received at work the previous day. At the inquest Thomas Manners, a locomotive engine driver, testified that he had seen Meegan "run down the middle of the line in front of the truck" in the coke yard. He blew the whistle and Meegan moved onto the side next to the coke ovens. As he passed, he looked over the side to see if Meegan had moved, but failing to spot him, he brought the engine to a halt. He got off and found Meegan lying near the lines, both his legs and an arm had been broken after being run over. There was a thunderstorm going on at the time, so the deceased may not have heard the approaching engine.
