| Lives Lost: | 1 |
Thomas Clark and James Fineran were hewing in Brancepeth Pit on 18 August. During their shift they had experienced problems in getting their tubs away because of the ground, then as Fineran got ready to push the last tub out, Clark got in front and called for him to push away. When the tub began to move, Clark’s head was caught between the tub and a prop and severely crushed. He was taken home where after ‘five hours excruciating suffering, he expired.’
