| Date: | 23rd November 1832 |
| Colliery: | Sheriff Hill |
| Cause: | Fall of Stone |
| Lives Lost: | 2 |
Two fine young men, of the names Matthew King and James Linsley, were killed, whilst at work in the Sheriff Hill colliery, in consequence of a fall from the roof of the mine. It would appear that they had incautiously removed some coal without having supplied its place with props, which occasioned the accident. A coroner's inquest was held, and a verdict of accidental death returned.
