Malachite

Synonyms

 

Green copper carbonate. Green malachite. (Malachite green is an organic dye ; Blue malachite is azurite.) Mountain green. Rame carbonato verde, Verde di monte (Ital.). Maclaquita (Span.). Berggrun (Germ.)


Nomenclature

 

The name malachite is derived from the Greek word for mallows in allusion to its resemblance to the green coloration of the leaf of that plant.
