List of Mines

In this section we present the Lists of Mines in the North of England taken from either Government Publications or Publications such as the Colliery Guardian. The majority of the information from these lists is already used on the site to present the statistics on the individual colliery pages, however the lists are useful in their own right as a) not all the mines listed have a colliery page and b) the lists provide information not shown on the colliery pages e.g. the managers names etc.

Available lists: 1869, 1880, 1888, 1896, 1902, 1908, 1914, 1918, 1921, 1930, 1934, 1938, 1940, 1945, 1947, 1950, 1960, 1970, 1980, 1991

For those lists of mines up to and including 1947 we have indexed the colliery managers names and details. These are available by following the Managers option on the menu shown at the left of the page.

A list of mines for 1869 is available online at the The Coal Mining History Resource Centre run by Ian Winstanley.
