Local Records1695April 2. — An act for the better measurement of keels and keel-boats in the port of Newcastle received the royal assent. [LRS] April 24. — The following is extracted from the register of St. Andrew’s, Newcastle :— "April 24th, 1695, were buried, James Archer and his son Stephen, who, in the month of May, 1658, were drowned in a coal-pit in the Galla-Flatt, by the breaking in of water from an old waste. The bodys were found intire, after they had lyen in the water 36 years and 11 months". [LRS]
